Human rights

No. 2: "Every right belongs to everybody, whatever our differences"
What right would you fight for?
We have chosen right number two, which is about that every right belongs to everybody, whatever our differences. In connection to the right, we have chosen to narrow down our focus point because it's such a wide right. Therefore we will focus on racism because we find that most important in connection to the topic.
Why is this important?
The Declaration of Human Rights was created largely because of the Holocaust and the horrors of WWII. During that time in history, the most vulnerable in society were targeted along with the Jewish population, including those with disabilities and LGBT. Organizations concerned with human rights focus on members of society most vulnerable to abuse from powerholders, instead of ignoring them. Racism is an important issue as many people around the world are being treated unfairly every day because of their race. People get killed and humiliated every day even though they are basically human just like everyone else.
Facts - how many people are affected? where is it a problem?
One out of 10 black Americans says that they have experienced incidents of discrimination or police mistreatment at least once in their lifetime. Amid nationwide protests against racial bias in law enforcement and beyond, a new KFF poll finds that the vast majority (71%) of Black Americans say they’ve experienced some form of racial discrimination or mistreatment during their lifetimes, including nearly half (48%) who say that they at one point felt their life was in danger because of their race. Racism isn't only a problem in the united states of America. It's also a big problem worldwide including countries like Denmark and England.
Where and how is it violated in the past and present? relate to news.
In the past few years, we've been seen lots of examples of racism and discrimination. One good example could be the Georg Floyd situation. He was murdered unfairly by a policeman who pressed his knee against his neck for several minutes until he died. This whole situation started a big social movement called Black Lives Matter where people were protesting against incidents of police brutality and all racially motivated violence against black people.
A call of action - what do you think we should do to make sure this right isn't violated in the future?
A good way to how racism can be prevented is by informing everyone. The more focus that comes on the topic the more people know about the horrible truths. People's conscience can make a big difference and if many people stand together and shout loudly it can be easier to put an end to the atrocities. Therefore are demonstrations good for informing people about how wrong it is to discriminate against other people on a daily basis. And if many people can agree that something is completely wrong, can more laws against racism be introduced.
Relate to the situation here in DK.
In Denmark, racism is not as big a problem as it is in the United States. However, it is still experienced from time to time which is completely unacceptable. Fortunately, it has been made illegal to be racist in Denmark which has ended some of the problems. However, we still have the freedom of speech that can protect us from this law and start a debate about when you're actually being a racist.
